OVERVIEW
GOM Snow Desserts is a Korean dessert shop bringing sweet treats to Oxnard, led by their playful mascot, Gomy the Bear (from “곰,” meaning “bear” in Korean). I developed the brand identity and visual system to launch GOM as a new local favorite.
My role covered:
-
Brand strategy & character direction
-
Marketing collateral (menus, signage, promotions)
-
Food packaging & merchandise (cups, bags, uniforms)
The goal was to create a welcoming, character-driven identity that balanced cultural authenticity with a fun, approachable vibe.
THE CHALLENGE
A cultural gap made it bchallenging to engage the local community. With Oxnard’s majority Hispanic population, our team recognized that signature items like Korean-flavored shaved ice (bingsu 빙수) and fish-shaped cakes (taiyaki 붕어빵) would likely be unfamiliar to much of the local community. Beyond this, the store was designed with future franchising in mind. If GOM couldn’t appeal to audiences like Oxnard’s, its franchise potential would be severely limited.
THE TASK
Design a brand system focused on being both warm and inviting in order to taps into playful curiousity.
THE SOLUTION
Build the brand around Gomy the Bear, a playful mascot, creating a warm, approachable identity that draws curious customers.
Gomy gives the brand a recognizable face and eases unfamiliarity with a fun, welcoming atmosphere. The playful character appeals to both families with children and Gen Z fans of collectibles and K-pop culture. As the brand’s centerpiece, Gomy ensures every touchpoint—from packaging to displays—feels approachable and cohesive
